MANUFACTURING PROCESS

ORNAN manufactures carbon bicycle rims through controlled material preparation, layup, molding, CNC drilling, finishing and final inspection. Each OEM or ODM order is produced according to an approved specification covering rim dimensions, layup, drilling pattern, finish and acceptance requirements.

Material Preparation：

Materials are prepared according to the approved layup schedule and production specification for each rim model or OEM order. Carbon prepreg kits are prepared and checked against the model-specific material specification. Bladders, molds and auxiliary materials are also verified before layup begins. The weight must be within the tolerance if you want to pass and move on to the next process. Relevant material, operator and production information is recorded on the computer to keep the record. Each rim is engraved with a unique serial number for order and production traceability.

Carbon Fiber Layup:

Each rim uses our carefully designed fixture to make the carbon fiber prepreg layer. Our most experienced workers apply the prepreg by hand, and most of the rim processing process takes 30-45 minutes.

When forming a carbon fiber rim, the temperature and air pressure control process is very important, which determines whether yourproduct has a perfect finish. We use the latest generation of machinery to achieve the most stable temperature and air pressure throughout the heating, curing, and cooling process. Carefully control all aspects during the ~45-minute cycle.

DRILLING:

Spoke and valve holes are drilled by CNC according to the approved drilling program, including hole count, position, diameter and drilling angle. You can request a customized drilling pattern if you have a unique wheel build. All rims are drilled with a high-speed CNC machine.

After demolding, normal molding flash is removed, rim edges are trimmed and spoke holes are deburred. The rim then undergoes an initial visual and dimensional inspection.

After the rough rim blanks are finished, they proceed to the coating process. We have an independent spray paint production line and strictly control every link, including matte, gloss, custom decals and selected paint-free finishes. OEM graphics and color samples can be confirmed before production.

FINAL QC CHECK:

In addition to standard quality control inspections on carbon fiber rims, we also check roundness(must be within 0.2mm), flatness(within 0.15mm), and with some products, the tire pressure check is performed.

All Ornan wheels are lashed and trued by hand. Experienced wheel-building technicians combine calibrated measurements with visual and tactile inspection throughout the building process. There are needs at least 4~5 stress relieve rounds during the process.

Before packing, the product model, quantity, finish, wheel configuration and included accessories are cross-checked against the order. Rims and wheelsets are protected to reduce the risk of movement and impact during transport.
