Why Consider 32-Inch MTB Wheels?

The UCI has confirmed that 32-inch wheels are permitted in cross-country mountain bike competition(check here). 32-inch bicycle rim uses a 686mm bead seat diameter (BSD), compared with 622mm for 29er/700C wheels — a 64mm increase in bead seat diameter, which directly brings several performance improvements. 

- Shallower Approach Angle
With a comparable tire setup, a larger wheel diameter creates a shallower approach angle when meeting roots, rocks and trail obstacles. This can help the wheel roll over uneven surfaces more smoothly.

- Greater Momentum and Stability
The larger rotating diameter can help the wheel maintain momentum and track more steadily across rough or open terrain. This may benefit XC marathon and endurance-oriented riding where maintaining speed is important.

- Larger Tire Contact Area
Depending on tire size and pressure, the larger wheel format can create a longer contact patch, supporting traction and stability on loose or uneven surfaces.
- More Proportional Fit for Tall Riders
For some tall riders, a 32-inch wheel can allow a custom frame to achieve more visually and functionally proportional geometry than a conventional 29er platform. But actual performance will also depend on frame geometry, total wheel weight, tire construction, tire pressure, wheel build, riding terrain and rider position. A larger wheel is not automatically faster in every application.

ORNAN’s 32 inch MTB carbon rims series offer 30mm internal width and 35mm internal width for XC and all-mountain applications. 

The 35mm internal width models provide a wider tire-support platform for riders and builders prioritizing stability, higher-volume tires and rougher terrain. Both hooked and hookless options are available.

The 30 mm internal width models offer 3 kind of weight options within and they adopt a wider bead‑hook design to improve pinch‑flat resistance. When the tire bottoms out, this design spreads impact loads across a larger contact area, reduces stress concentration on the tire sidewall and helps lower the risk of pinch‑flats on rough‑terrain trails.

All models are tubeless-ready and designed for disc-brake wheel builds. Custom complete wheels with steel or carbon spokes are also available.
